Hiking in Martinique - The Macabou Loop

Day 1: Flight for Fort-de-France

Transfer to accommodation in Le Prêcheur. Installation and dinner in situ.

Day 2: La Trace des Mornes or Canal des esclave, (Morne-Vert / Font Saint Denis)

Departure for a hike on La Trace des Mornes or towards the Canal des Esclaves, depending on the weather conditions and conditions of the group. In the afternoon, we will go up the river and go fishing for crayfish. First swim in the waters of the Caribbean in the afternoon, Carbet. Dinner and overnight at the accommodation.

Day 3: The Montagne Pelée

Ascent of the Montagne Pelée (1395 m), the highest point of the island. In the shadow of this mythical mountain, you will admire sumptuous and strange landscapes, the flamboyant colors of "mountain pineapple" and other endemic plants. If the weather permits, breathtaking views of the peaks of Carbet, Morne Rouge, the north, the center of the island and the neighboring islands. Depending on the level of the group, this hike can be shortened, and the ascent can partial. In the afternoon, visit the ruins of Saint-Pierre and possibility to visit (optional) the Discovery Center of Earth Sciences, museum on volcanism, and more particularly on the mountain Pelée. And to end this beautiful day, a stop in the bay of Saint-Pierre for a well deserved swim! Dinner and overnight at the accommodation.

Day 4: La trace des jésuites

Departure on the old trace of the religious who borrowed it in the 17th century. Immerse yourself in the tropical rain forest with its tree ferns, endemic species and majestic trees. Accompanied by many songs of birds, you will cross rivers with crystal clear waters and enjoy a swim in a beautiful little natural pool surrounded by lush vegetation. Visit a farm and have lunch at their table d'hôte. In the afternoon, we will visit the Depaz distillery, the last of Saint-Pierre, where we will discover the secrets of the Depaz rum. We will end the day with a swim before returning to the accommodation for dinner.

Day 5: The peninsula of La Caravelle

Discovery of the peninsula of La Caravelle, national reserve. On the program: superb views of the jagged cliffs, rich birdlife, first approach to the mangrove forest, dry coastal forest ... This hike is an opportunity to observe the first geological formations that have helped to forge the Martinique today. After this hike, relax afternoon at the lagoon of the treasure bay. Installation in a new accommodation in the south of the island for the rest of your stay.

Day 6: Day in transparent canoes

We leave for a full day at sea aboard transparent canoes, a unique and fun way to discover the coastline, its fauna and flora. During this excursion, we will also be able to admire the coral reef and sail through the mangrove. Many swimming breaks will be planned to rest in the white backgrounds of the island, as well as a picnic lunch on a small islet. Dinner and overnight at the accommodation.

Day 7: La Boucle de Macabou

Today, we visit the site An Mao Ancestors Legacy. This one-hectare park was formerly inhabited by the slaves of the island and reveals the rich cultural heritage of Martinique. We will be able to discover the ancestral knowledge of nature and traditional medicine that has been transmitted to present generations. A unique experience to learn history and heritage of Martinique. We will end the day with a last swim in the Caribbean Sea. Meal and overnight in our accommodation in the south.

Day 8: Guided visit of Fort-de-France - Transfer to the airport

Guided tour of the capital of the island through its market and its colorful streets. Lunch and transfer to the airport early afternoon for your return flight.
